Working with layouts needs improvement. Here's some ideas:-
Grouping of objects. Just like any graphics app. it should be possible to 'group' objects so they then act as a single object. E.g. 'group' several buttons together and they can be moved around and positioned on the screen with changing the positional relationship between them.
Selecting multiple objects. Having to click on each object is VERY laborious when it's a dozen or more objects. Particularly when you thought you had it correct and selected something else, then have to select all those same objects again. We need to be able to drag a marquee around objects to select them. This is simple and very quick especially if shift clicking is then allowed so the selection can be modified with objects added to or subtracted from the selection.
There are fairly standard ways of performing most (if not all) of this sort of interface stuff and if you want to see how best to do it, look at Apple products as they do it the best. Don't try to invent some new way to achieve something, just copy the way Apple do it. Sorry, some may disagree with me, but they'd be wrong
We need more buttons. I realise that buttons can be made using our own images, but that also is VERY time consuming. Mostly, we just need more variation. I propose the following built-in options:-
Half height buttons. Space is often at a premium, smaller buttons help, but label needs to be readable.
Font size selection for buttons - PLEASE.
Choice of colours - keep the same shaded look, but allow selection of ANY base colour, I don't believe this would require you to develop a multitude of button sets, just the appropriate graphic whose base colour can be changed.
Colour buttons that are ALL colour. These buttons on real remotes are all colour, all over, not a spot of colour in the middle of a normal button. Apart from better representing the real button equivalents, it would allow the current red button (i.e. red spot in centre) to be used for the [Record] button which on every remote I've used is exactly that - a red spot in the centre. Currently it's either use the red button (confusing) or the suggested white spot in the middle button which is nothing like a real [Record] button.
Standard circular cursor key button set, i.e. with up, down, left, right and OK/Select in the centre. Almost every remote uses this set and it would be so much better if we could just pick that as a set (group?) with an obviously different graphic, integrated together so these buttons stand out from the rest, just like on a real remote. Use of normal square buttons for these functions means they get lost in the display. I cannot think of any other 'group' of buttons so commonly used and hence so needed. I would suggest a shading/highlighting scheme that matches the other buttons and also the ability to select the base colour, as per other buttons, to enable a consistent look and feel.
I have asked if they would ever add more buttons and the reply was probably not, due to the limited amount of storage space with in the Redeye unit. So best I can tell you is to add your own buttons....
